Oya No Kai, Inc. is classified as a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible organization. This allows us to participate in many fundraising activities. We are also able to receive cash donations and qualify for many matching fund opportunities. Please check with your employer to see if they have a matching funds program.
Oya No Kai, Inc. has two purposes for our fundraising. One is for the General Budget, which supports our entire Program and classroom Interns. The other reason is to make the Japanese Cultural Exchanges affordable to all the JMP students and their families.

- Calligraphy -- Instruction in Japanese calligraphy is provided for 3 - 5 graders at Richmond. A teacher gives weekly lessons to all students in these grades.
- Classroom funds -- Each Japanese teacher (K-12) is allotted a set amount of spending money to use as they deem necessary to supplement Japanes classroom supplies. ONK also donates money to each of our three school libraries to purchase Japanese language or content-related books.
- Field trips -- Each grade level is allotted a set amount for school field trips or assemblies.
- Annual events -- Undokai (Japanese field day at Richmond), Camp Westwind, Kurabu, Oregon Shizen Kyampu, OMSI overnight, and others.
- Guest relations -- This supports the docent program, member meetings, postage, etc.
- Advertising -- Ads are placed in local publications and flyers are provided at various Asian festivals in the community (Obon festival, Festival Japan at Uwajimaya, Children's Day at the Japanese Garden, and others) as well as at ONK fundraising events.
