Membership
Purpose
Oya No Kai provides cultural support to Portland Public Schools' Japanese Magnet Program and its schools Richmond Elementary, Mt. Tabor Middle School, and Grant High School. Activities which Oya No Kai supports and funds include:
- Native Japanese speaking interns in grades K-12
- Sponsorship of cultural exchange trip for 5th and 8th grade classes
- Curriculum enhancement
- Calligraphy courses
- Homestays for international visitors
- Sponship for the Cultural Center on the Richmond campus that provides courses in Taiko and Tea Ceremony
- Classroom supplies and field trip assistance
- Kurabu summer day camp for grades 1-5
- Camp Westwind weekend for families
- Community program awareness
- Much more!
Who can join
Membership is open to all persons who are either a parent or guardian of a child currently enrolled in the JMP. Each member is entitled to one vote on each matter submitted to Membership vote. All members receive the quarterly newsletter Oshirase.
A special Friends of the JMP category is open to alumni of the JMP or relatives of JMP families. No voting privileges extended, but Friends also receive the Oshirase newsletter.

Membership must be renewed annually.
Donations
No payment or donation of any kind is required to join Oya No Kai. Donations are appreciated, however, and are vital to sustaining the activities which Oya No Kai provides in support of the Japanese Magnet Program. Any amount is welcome, and several levels are available.
